Notice on the direction of new energy project proposals in Lao PDR

1. Postponed to approve and consider new energy projects in the hydropower sectors, coal power plants and alternative energy projects for 2 years (until 31st December 2020). To do this because government will monitor, assess and allocate new markets for energy projects that government of Laos have already approved previously. 2. In the postponed phase (2 years), the MPI (Ministry of Planning and Investment) will coordinate with Ministry of Energy and Mines, lectricit du Laos (EDL) and related sectors to study more in detail for previous energy projects that Lao government have approved. 3. Ministry of Energy and Mines is a key sector to evaluate the need of electricity use inside Laos and in neighboring countries. As well as to improve the policy of price identification on electricity use.
